Driving on the uneven windswept dirt road, from Groblershoop to Brulpan, we encountered the dark shadow of death lurking on the arid dessert valley floor. Two cars had collided head on, just moments before in a melee of shattering glass, twisting metal and smashed and broken body parts; the result of perhaps the all too often payday visit to the shebeens (taverns). The police were already on the scene, having been just down the road but it would take a long time for emergency services to arrive at the scene. Too long as it turned out!
