This is the real World War Two image of the U-Boat finished in a method similar to the processing consistent with images of that era. I did not post it yesterday because I thought it too dark but having looked at my war books last night, I considered it just right. The type of processing that wiould have been used had a beach patrolman (warder) taken this photograph at dawn or dusk with a camera, similar in those days to what we would consider a compact/consumer camera today.

The vignette effect is also designed to replicate the view they would have had looking out through binoculars from one of many forts stationed in the area to protect the coast lines from marauding German U-Boats, of which there were many active in the area.
