The Hospital Bend Interchange
Series: Moodimism - The New Noir
The reason for this photograph is that you have to look at it in ORIGINAL size to see the gritty, moody grains reminiscent of the great era of black and white photography.
This is the notorious Hospital Bend, which is being redeveloped and upgraded with several new bridges in the build up to World Cup 2010. Urban legend says the original plans were acquired in the United States in the early 70's and no-one realized we drive on the wrong side of the road. Because of that, the road is cantered in the wrong direction and this stretch has caused untold deaths over the years.
In 1979, my friend John Buchan was killed in an accident, just about where the Z4 is now. That's not the reason it's called Hospital Bend though, directly in front lays the Groote Schuur Hosptal, famous forever as the place where Christiaan Barnard performed the world's first Heart Transplant on Louis Washkansky.
I took this shot this morning, on the way back from the airport through my windshield whilst driving. I know, real clever thing to do.... don't ever try being as clever !
